Travel does the good!

Travelling is not just about reaching a destination- it is experiencing and exploring a new way of life. Travel brings a joy which leaves you speechless and turns you into a storyteller at the same time. And how great is the opportunity of following such an amazing passion all the way to making it a profession!

The tourism courses in India give you a chance to make all your travel-desires come true and generate income out of it too. The travel and tourism industry is a huge part of our economy and hence, tourism has become a widely pursued course today!

Some of the hotel management institutes in India like AAFTSchool of Hospitality and Tourism also teach some aspects of the tourism industry as a part of the overall hotel management course- because of a close relation between the two.

Tourism course delivers a win-win situation for all- for the traveller who can fulfill his dreams and make money out of it and also for the sector which it is related to it. Wildlife tourism, for example, is mostly related to merely watching wild animals into their habitat. But it is advantageous to animals in a number of ways- for conservation and better living.

·         Donations: Through wildlife tourism, people contribute monetary donations so that the authorities can work towards conservation of animals.

·         Conservation breeding: To save species from extinction, wildlife parks breed rare and endangered species and then release the progeny into suitable habitats.

·         Research: Wildlife tourism allows operators to research on the lifestyle of the animals and to monitor their reactions to environmental conditions. Then, they also look for ways of improvement of conditions.

·         Anti-poaching: A regular stream of visitors makes it difficult for poachers to hunt, capture or kill animals present in a wildlife park.

On the whole, travel and tourism does good to all the elements who are part of it!

The three elements of hospitality!

Hospitality is a deep concept. It is related to service and hence the idea is shared by all kinds of industry. Hospitality is inevitable. You’ve got to include it in any and every type of business to excel as a successful businessman.

Many people believe that the hospitality management courses prepare the students only for hotels, restaurants and other businesses which require public dealing. However the truth is that every business needs to serve the customers, directly or indirectly. The efficiency of your staff in serving people has no replacement- irrespective of the business you’re in.

So hospitality is more than just pursuing the hotel management courses and holding a managerial position in a hotel department. It is all about service and here’s a list of categories of hospitality which are included in a number of other industries also.

·         Food and beverage: This perhaps is the largest element of the hospitality industry. From high end restaurants to fast food eateries and from catering establishments to other manifestations, hospitality remains an integral part of all of them. Hotels are not the only industries which incorporate these joints. Movie theaters and bowling alley also have outlets.

·         Accommodations: Comfort, efficiency and attentiveness- these are the three things that travelers look for in an accommodation. The hospitality in accommodations aims at providing comfortable lodging and stay. Apart from hotels, other businesses in which accommodation hospitality is required are resorts, hostels and campgrounds.

·         Tourism: And while we’re talking about hospitality, we can never miss the inclusion of tourism sector. The tourism and transportation sector is an important element of hospitality industry and it includes all the airlines, trains and cruise ships.

The bottom line is that hospitality is a wide conception and it has its branches in all the other kinds of industries.

The bottom line is that hospitality is a wide conception and it has its branches in all the other kinds of industries.

The hospitality industry being an important sector, there is no scarcity of luxurious hotels in India. There are people who grow up with dreams of working as a hotel management professional in one of such hotels. If one looks around carefully, one would also see a plethora of hotel management institutes in one’s city itself. Out of those, only few are regarded as the best in the country. And the path of gaining entry into the workforce of the best hotels passes through the top hotel management institutes.

Now are you wondering why did I say that? There are various reasons for this conclusion of mine. Firstly, top 10 hotelmanagement colleges in India train you to perfection in every aspect of hotel management. The mentors their leave no stone unturned in helping students polish their skills. Secondly, it’s not easy to get into the best of colleges. Out of thousands who apply for various courses in good institutes, only a handful of dedicated and knowledgeable candidates are selected from the lot. This means when trained under experienced faculty, they naturally graduate as individuals ready to take on good positions of responsibility in the top hotels. Thirdly, the top hotel management institutes bring to the schools the best of hotels for the recruitment process. This allows the students to kick-start their careers from the most reputed hotels right after graduation. Hence, if you want to do a hospitality management course, try and get admission in one of the best colleges to ensure a better future.

The Perks of Private Hotel Management Courses

In the recent times, the hospitality industry has burst forth and gotten extremely popular with the youngsters. The diverse range of this field is attracting a lot of traffic from new graduates, who don’t really want to settle down with a routine job just yet. Hotel Management, allows one the luxury of communicating with people from different countries, cultures and sort of become an all rounder in many different areas.

Now, due to the immense popularity of this field, many institutes have opened up offering courses of hotel management, both government owned and private. They are offering all types of courses from traveland tourism courses, to the full 3 year program of hotel management. One can explore a plethora of options in this industry.

Also, India has some of the finest institutes offering hotel management and one just needs to do a brief search of the top 10 hotel management college in India to know which is which. But among them, will be both private and government funded colleges, and here are a few tips on why private institutes are better:

1. Better Prospects:
This one is the most important. The first thing anyone looks for when selecting colleges are what is the placement situation like and what is the rating. And usually it is the private institutes that offer a better placement after graduation. Because of their tie ups with their hotel chains, they can at least guarantee employment in their hotels.

2.  More Funding:
It is true that private institutes get better funding, precisely because of their tie ups with their own hotel chains and other private hotel chains too. And the large funding allows the college to get better staff, teachers and equipment.

3. Better Training:

A private institute will have a larger curriculum because of their international clientele and this will ensure that a student is knowledgeable in a wide array of subjects.

Travel & Tourism- The most dynamic profession

When I see around me, I see most of my peers are not happy with the work they do. They work out of some compulsion, or work just because they have to, for a living. All they look forward to is the message that says “Your account has been credited…” and to the weekends. It is like they would live their entire life in those two days! And don’t even talk about Mondays in front of them! Just by mentioning the name, you can screw up their mood! I at times feel like an outcast when I am with such friends, because surprisingly, I couldn’t be happier doing what I do for a living! I just took up something that I knew I loved and when you do something you love, that’s less of work and more of fun!

I knew two things for sure; I would not be able to survive a job which is not dynamic enough to tame my own spirited self, and I would not ask for anything more if I get to travel to different places as a part of my work! Well, I have achieved both, I must say. Of course I did my share of research and hard work for it, and I would suggest if you too, share the common zeal of travelling, you can consider doing what I did! I made an informed decision when I joined one of the most reputed Hotel Management Institutes in India. I knew what kind of jobs I can land in and I knew the subjects covered during the course of Graduation.

I was introduced to Travel and tourism as a part of the curriculum of the course and I made the most of it. I read all the aspects of travel and tourism and made up my mind to take it up as a specialization in my masters. So without wasting my time I joined one of the well- known tourism courses in India, and my masters led to my placement in the Travel agency where I currently work, and three years of my experience is nothing but bliss! My work involves traveling to several places and it is just as challenging I wanted!

Why Tourism Industry is Rising Fast

The profession of a travel agent has not always been a very glamorous one. In India especially, being a travel agent is just sitting in a stuffy office in some small lane with posters of the Statue of Liberty and the valleys of Europe as background.

But in the recent years being a travel agent has changed as the tourism industry has become one of the most profitable industries. If one is passionate about travelling, then they can easily find a good well- paying job in the travel industry as either a travel agent or something else.

One of the steps one can take if they want to go into the travel industry is getting a degree from any of the reputed hotel management institute in India. This will allow them to try their hand at several different departments in the hotel industry and open some good doors for anyone wanting to get into the tourism industry.

Apart from that, if one does not necessarily want to do a hotel management course then there are also several short term tourismcourses in India that are available to all. This will be shorter in duration and more department specific. As in these course will cover a more certain part of the tourism industry and will target that section only in their duration. Unlike a hotel management course which covers all aspects of the industry, such short term courses will have a speciality to them and one can only attend one course at a time.

One reason why tourism industry is one of the most successful industry is also because the countries and their governments have realised the importance of tourism and the revenue is generates. So one can easily get a good paying job in the government department of the tourism sector.

So both the government and the private sector are filled with job opportunities in the travel industry

Hotel Management: A Professional Course worth Having

A hotel manager or hotelier is someone who takes care of the hotel or lodge or resort. In theory it doesn’t sound like the most exciting or fun job to have. But since a long time hotel management was one of the few jobs which was accepted in India even though it was not really a stable profession.

Hotel management colleges in India have thrived on thousands of applicants who wanted to break away from the shackles of the mundane 9 to 5 job structure and wanted to do something different. Here are 5 reasons why hotel management is still an exciting profession.

1.       Hotel management is in today's time a very satisfying and fulfilling job. And there are a ton of hotel management college that give very professional quality and expert level teaching to its students.

2.       The setting of these institutes is very beautiful. Since they require big grounds to be able to teach all the skills of the hospitality sector that’s why they are usually a little away from the more populated areas. And because of that, the area of these institutes is very beautiful, and pleasing to the eye.

3.       Besides just learning hotel management, the students can also take tourism courses in India to be able to better understand the hospitality sector. That way you not only have a professional degree but also have good knowledge to be able to make it in that sphere too.

4.       Actually tourism courses in India are on a rise too considering the amazing travelling opportunities connected to such a course. But you don’t necessarily have to pursue a different course for that. You can very well have amazing opportunities to travel from doing just hotel management too.

5.       There are a number of more reasons to consider this job for its pay, hotel managers generally make a good sum of money and there is also a lot of room for growth, you can try to gain experience in any sector of the hotel business you want.

Why travel and tourism?

So, while I watch my sister graduate from high school, I contemplate about what career options I can advise her about? With the last generations taking over engineering and doctor, I wish I can suggest my sister something that would really not be that monotonous but where she enjoys her work and grows into an independent women. I searched through various online portals, went through career websites and then zeroed in on what I thought was best and exciting for her. I suggested her to take up those travel and tourism courses, because it is a profile which always keeps you on your toes and energetic. Here’s my reasons to why travel and tourism? Have a read:

·         A growing industry:

According to recent statistics, Tourism is the world’s largest and fastest growing industry with a total economic contribution to the world’s economy of $2 trillion and over 100 million jobs! While there are awfully lot number of people who believe that travel and tourism is just what you call a vacation, but it is so much more than that. Travel and tourism generates a great number of jobs, incomes and tax revenues. This money often provides the additional revenue needed for local businesses to remain financially stable.

·         Great opportunities:

Travel and tourism is a very competitive industry. Every country ensures that they get a steady flow of tourist and travellers who can contribute towards the destination country’s revenues and other taxes. Therefore, opportunities are galore, the positions range from front-line executives or operations, to supervisory and management positions that involve people management skills, to influential and challenging positions at the executive or entrepreneur level in national and international organizations, all of which are aimed at customer satisfaction.

Getting your hotel noticed just got easier!

The hospitality industry of India has grown tremendously over the last few years. India is undoubtedly a great tourist destination and hence it comes as no surprise that India’s tourism sector contributes a significant amount to its GDP and supports millions of jobs. But owing to the presence of a multitude of hotels in India, not all become equally successful. My friend who pursued a course in hotel management from the best hotel management institute in India works in a great hotel in Goa. But in order to make it well-known, he had to work hard. So if you too are struggling to get your hotel noticed, here are some tips for you:

1.      Word-of-mouth
India might be a developing country, but we Indians love to travel and then share our travel experiences with our near and dear ones. Travellers would recommend your hotel to their friends and family only if they are satisfied. And what contributes to that satisfaction, you may ask; cleanliness and hygiene, efficient staff, good food, and value for money- all of which you must have been taught in your hotel management college-  if you take care of these basic factors, your hotel would do great!

2.      Social media
Marketing through social media is the latest and most useful trend at present. Making your own hotel page, posting regularly, running online contests, etc. are great ways to enhance your hotel visibility. In fact, your patrons too can contribute to your visibility. For instance, when I recently visited Amritsar with my friends, ‘checking in’ is the first thing we did on entering our rooms.

3.      Reviewing websites

The tech-savvy people never book hotels without screening through the online reviews on websites. When your guests are checking out, you could politely ask them to review on a travel website you are listed on. Good reviews get you great publicity. But for the reviews to be good, you have make efforts to make your hotel actually worthy.

BE YOUR OWN GUIDE

Do you have a passion for travelling across the world? And do you get fascinated by different cultures and traditions of the world? Well then, a hotel management and tourism course is just the right course for you. While a hotel management college teaches you about the hospitality, a course in tourism gives you the opportunity to maximize career opportunities in this rapidly growing industry. And I believe that these two things are closely related, both involving the social connect with people, if we talk about the big picture.

But sometimes I feel that you don’t even require a travel and tourism course to be a guide. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow and understand the people. You’re all set to take people to the places you have been to and have knowledge about. I, for example would love to take people to the places that I have travelled, Udaipur being one of my top favorites. Udaipur is called the city of lakes and travelling to Udaipur was one of the best experiences I have had. It has beautiful lakes and magnificent palaces. City Palace, one of the major tourist attractions, is a grand conglomeration of several buildings, towers and balconies. It is a grand monument which gives you the feel of a castle. A lot of foreigners are seen roaming around in the Palace enjoying the Royal cultural heritage. It also has a small gallery which boasts of royal artifacts. The Palace offers splendid views of Lake Pichola, which is another major tourist attraction of this city. Then there is Saheliyon ki Badi which is more like a park, with lights lit up in all the possible colors, giving you a royal treatment. Sunset Point at the top of Sajjangarh fort provides awesome view of Sunset that once experienced, can never be forgotten. Then there is Fatehsagar Lake, Shilpagram and Lake Place which are some of the other beautiful sights of Udaipur.

In the Hope of Travelling

If I had to think back and identify my very first memory –it’d be the memory of a train journey. That’s how I fell in love with travelling –through multiple days and nights spent on trains with my parents, traversing all the diversities of our beautiful country, India.

I’m told I was neither fussy nor impatient –I would sit by the window, and gaze out at the barley fields or rivers, or what have you. Lost in thought, through the years, I’ve found myself through travelling.

Until now, my trips within India and abroad have been graciously financed by my parents (both travel enthusiasts just like me, I suppose it runs in the blood!), I now stand on the threshold of adulthood (okay, I’ll be honest, I’m a little past that) where financial independence looms dauntingly ahead!

So, nowadays, I often find myself browsing through Travel and tourism courses or some such thing –to give me hope for a career that allows me to earn a living off of something I absolutely love.
And let me tell you, as much as it seems like an unlikely happening, there are actually a large and varied number of things you can do to travel and make money at the same time! For example, you could get into travel writing, travel blogging, photography, fashion, politics…Oh, the list is simply endless. Think of any profession, and there’s no reason you can’t add a dash of travelling to it!

One prospect I found to be rather enticing was that of Travel and tourism courses. The very name is alluring enough, isn’t it? You could go into planning, organising, etc., you could become a travel agent, a tour operator, work at a museum… You could do anything you want to!

But you know what… With options amok, I find myself eager to dabble in a bit of everything. And maybe I will… Maybe one day you’re going to see my name become synonymous with the travel and tourism industry! Until then, fare thee well!

A sneak-peak to hotel management

The day I took my last board exam of twelfth class should have been marked with excitement and ecstasy. But there I was, sitting in one corner of my house, lost and befuddled. I was absolutely clueless about my future. On the other hand, all my friends were celebrating their newfound freedom. While most of them too had no idea of the career they wished to pursue, there was this one friend among those who was absolutely sure about his future career in hotel management.

While I went for the safest option and took admission in one of the most popular commerce courses, my friend managed to gain admission in one of the top 10 hotel management colleges in India. He soon left the city to pursue his long-cherished dream. While he called me regularly in the beginning, his calls became less frequent with the passage of time. He told me about his erratic work hours that often left him deprived of sleep. But he was always cheerful, and narrated all his experiences in depth. He told me all about the skills that he had acquired. I was very happy when I got to know about his internship with a premium hotel and how much his work was being appreciated by his seniors over there. He also managed to land a job with the same hotel after he graduated from college.

Even though he works outside Delhi, he keeps paying regular visits to his family here. All of his friends (including me) recently went to meet him at his place. His passion and dedication never fail to amaze us. Despite being on vacation, he personally cooked food for all of us and treated us with utmost hospitality. I must say that the food was absolutely delicious. We are sure he would go a long way if he continues to work hard like this.
